Should I bike in the snow?

I found this excellent video! Check it out! What do you think?

Why Canadians Can't Bike in the Winter (but Finnish people can) I’m pricing studded tires, and they are not cheap!

How does Hi-Vis SafeWear keep you safe in the streets?

Fluorescent colors make you visible during the day (see video). The bigger the fluorescent area covered, the more visible you are.

Reflective vinyl make you visible to car drivers at night in the headlights. A little bit of reflectivity goes a long way! (see video)

When fluorescent and reflective areas are in motion, they are more visible simply because our eyes are evolved to quickly notice anything in motion. You are now as safe as possible during the day and night!

Tiny glass beads are embedded in reflective vinyl and each bead acts as a tiny mirror, reflecting light into the eyes of car drivers so they see a bright spot.

What is Reflectance?

Reflective vinyl has a surface made of tiny glass beads. Each bead acts as a mirror that reflects light back to the source. Light from car headlights that hit a reflective surface perpendicular to the light beam will bounce the light beam back to the car drivers eyes. The reflected light makes the vinyl appear to glow. Reflective materials can be many different colors, although silver is the most reflective.

What is Fluorescence?

Light hitting a fluorescent surface excites an electron in the fluorophore and makes it jump to a higher energy shell. When it jumps back to the original energy shell, energy is emitted. Our eyes interpret that jump of the electron as fluorescence, that is a very bright color. Fluorescent colors can be orange, yellow and green and aqua.

What is Luminescence

(also called Phosphorescence)?

A substance appears to be luminescence when the electronic state of a substance is excited by some kind of external energy and the excitation energy is given off in the form of light. Luminescent objects are called “glow in the dark” and light is given off by the luminescent substance after the light source is turned off.
